Lot 326: 2005 Volkswagen Camper Van Ex-Peter Townshend
Automobiles and Associated Collectables, Coys (20th October 2007)
The Volkswagen Type 2 is still made in Brazil, from where Danbury ships them over to convert into camper vans for nostalgic ex-hippies and anyone who likes a vehicle with a bit of character. From their new production facility just north of Bristol, Danbury convert the imported vans into camper vans kitted out with cookers, fridges, beds or any specification you desire. Ordered new on the 21st July 2005 from Danbury by Pete Townshend and girlfriend Rachel Fuller, this right hand drive camper was featured in Rolling Stone magazine (September 20th 2007) as they were photographed in it arriving at Ronnie Woods 60th birthday party and in The Sunday Times Style Magazine (October 30th 2005) copies of which are supplied with the van. Townshend made his name as the guitarist and principal songwriter for rock band The Who. His career with them spans more than 40 years, during which time the band grew to be considered one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time, in addition to being "possibly the greatest live band ever." Townshend is the primary songwriter for the group, writing over 100 songs on the band's eleven studio albums, including the rock operas Tommy and Quadrophenia.Finished in two-tone pink and white with lowered suspension sitting on alloy wheels, the van is in excellent condition having covered just over 4,000 miles and still under warranty until 2008. The van has received its 1 month or 2,500 kilometer inspection service on the 28th October 2005 and has a full under seal to keep the elements at bay.Inside the van you will find every possible appliance including fridge, sink, two burner gas hob, mains hook up, auxiliary battery, Webasto heater and winter pack and buddy seat with entertainment provided by a TV/DVD player with flip up screen and JVC CD player. The flooring is black and white checker and contrasting pink upholstery which folds down to make a double bed with a raised roof for comfort and space and curtains for privacy. Supplied with the van is an owner's manual, V5 document, instruction manuals for cooker, DVD/CD player and Webasto heater.
