Lot 126: MG C GT

First seen in 1967 and disappearing in 1969, the MGC was an attempt, by BMC, to replace the Big Healey, without having to build a completely new car. While the MGC was a very capable car, it was no Healey 3000 and sales were disappointing with only 8999 examples selling over the two years. These numbers were split almost evenly between roadsters and GT's.The low production numbers now ensure that the MGC - MGCGT are still sought after. Had it been marketed properly when new, it would have been a winner and gone on to sell in much greater numbers.With a 2912cc, straight six engine up front, the designers had to use torsion bar front suspension and a new bonnet, with a central bump to accommodate the taller and longer power plant. The MGC had more power and more torque than the 1800 "B" Series, giving the C more speed and greater flexibility.Offered here is a 2 owner, 1969 example of the CGT, which is said to be complete with full service history in support of the warranted 64,000 miles.Finished in BRG with black leather interior, which is original, the car has benefited from a bare metal repaint in 2004, is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust and is described as being in excellent condition throughout.
