Lot 051: 1967 VELOCETTE THRUXTON
MotorCycles, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (1st March 2007)
Introduced in 1964, the Thruxton represents the ultimate evolution of the company's sporting single. Derived from the Venom Clubman, the new model came as standard with all the items required to compete in production racing. An Amal GP carburettor and big valve head ensured that the engine could breathe to its maximum advantage. A consequence of the use of the Amal GP was the need for a cut out in the rear right hand side of the fuel tank to clear the instrument. Braking was aided by a twin leading shoe front brake and clip-ons, rear-sets and a humped saddle enabled the rider to adopt a position conducive to exploiting the full potential of the machines. Not visible, but equally important to the performance of the model were a close ratio gearbox, revised cams and strengthened crankcases. This example was supplied by the factory to Kings of Leeds during November 1967 and sold by them to a Mr C Hepworth on the 1st February 1968 at which time it was registered LUM 87F. Finished in black and gold and described as being in good condition throughout it is fitted with a Dodkin top yoke. A letter from the machine registrar confirms its authenticity.
