Lot 025: 1966 VELOCETTE LE
MotorCycles, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (1st March 2007)
The Velocette LE was conceived to meet the perceived demands of the "everyman or woman", however, the Goodman family concern were unable to knowingly produce a machine that was compromised in either quality or design. The result offered good weather protection, a clean and quiet power train due to the adoption of a liquid cooled side valve, horizontally opposed twin and shaft drive and easy handling. Unfortunately whilst these were desirable attributes it also proved to be expensive in comparison to the two stroke lightweights and scooters competing with it, people admired the innovation but bought a Bantam. Fortunately, the constabulary appreciated the LE's virtues and adopted it as a "beat patrol" machine. This late example, displacing approximately 200cc, was restored during the early 1990's and is attractively presented with a blue livery. It is described as being in very good condition both mechanically and cosmetically.
