Lot 108: MG Midget 1500

Launched shortly before the MGB, the new generation and diminutive Midget came with a 948cc, four cylinder engine, disc brakes to the front (on later 948 cars), a fancy chrome grill and side embellishers to distinguish it from the Austin Healy Spite II, which is what it really was.By 1964 the engine had grown to 1098cc, the windows could now be wound up and down and you could actually lock the doors. This was the MKII and the Midget would go on through the MKIII and MKIV, both with A Series 1275cc units. This lasted until 1974, when BL decided that a 1500cc engine, from the Triumph Spitfire, was the way to more performance and the Midget 1500 was born. The 1500 remained in production for 5 years, finally bowing out in 1979 after nearly 74,000 had been built. Total Midget production was over 307,000 between 1962 and 1979.This very late 1500 is said to have been the subject of a "Nut & Bolt" restoration, since when it has covered just 7 miles being driven to and from the MoT test centre. It is described as being in better than new condition and is offered together with invoices for many thousands of poundsFinished in Blaze with black interior and said to be in outstanding condition.
