Lot 008: 1979 SILK 700S

The Derby built Silk 700S was produced in limited numbers from 1975 until 1979. Conceived by former Scott apprentice and lifelong enthusiast George Silk the machines origins clearly lay in the Shipley product. The twin cylinder liquid cooled two-stroke produced approximately 47bhp which combined with the models low weight resulted in brisk performance. The frame was the work of the Spondon concern as were the heavyweight forks, endowing it with handling of the highest quality whilst top line AP Lockheed brakes ensured that the motorcycle could be retarded effectively. This example, which is believed to be one of the last built was originally supplied to a military clergyman, who due to overseas postings recorded a limited mileage before its acquisition by the present owner in a partially dismantled state. Re-assembled it continued to see only limited use due to the vendors work commitments which accounts for the low recorded mileage. It is described as needing "TLC but little expense" by the vendor. The engine is described as starting easily and makes a "wonderful noise" and benefited from a Boyer Bransden ignition system and a rewire during 2007. The paintwork is generally sound although the wheels are chipped. A Swansea V5C accompanies the machine which was last MOT'd until 13th June 2007 and taxed until the end of 2006.
