Lot 400: 1960 BSA C15S 250cc with Canterbury Trials Sidecar

BSA enjoyed considerable success in the 1950�s/60�s in competition with their lightweight off-road sports machines, the successes of their factory teams keeping the BSA name at the forefront and having positive effect on production machine sales. The fact that learner riders were restricted to machines with less than 250cc capacity also impacted positively on sales from a production line steered by the mechanical genius and business acumen of the great Edward Turner. This scrambles version of the 250cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engined bike is equipped for road use with a lighting set and is attached to a pretty aluminium-skinned Canterbury trials chair, number CO88. It is reputed that the outfit was ordered new by an older gentleman who did not trial it but used the outfit for taking his dog for outings. Although unconfirmed, it is thought that the one thousand or so recorded miles may be original and this is borne out by the overall presentation of the machine. The outfit was bought at a Bonhams sale in 2002 and since then has been part of a small collection of collectors vehicles. It is offered with a delightful patina, which deserves carefully retaining and for gentle recommissioning. The outfit comes with a Swansea registration document.
