Lot 162: 1961 Ambassador 250cc Super S
The 'British Bikes' Dispersal Sale, Bonhams (21st October 2006)
Founded by pre-war record breaker Kaye Don, Ambassador launched its first machine in 1947. Known as the ‘Series I’, the first Ambassador was a conventional lightweight powered by a 197cc Villiers 5E engine, and power units from the Wolverhampton firm would continue to be used right up until the end of Ambassador production in 1964. A model first introduced in 1958, the Super S was a revised version of the existing Supreme and used the Villiers 2T engine, a 250cc twin-cylinder power unit that was favoured by many of the UK’s smaller independent manufacturers. This Super S is offered with original logbook, expired MoT (2005) and Swansea V5C registration document.
