Lot 325: 1973 Monark 125cc TS
Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams (16th October 2005)
One of Sweden’s foremost marques, Monark was founded in 1920, though the first machines from the Varberg factory were marketed under the ‘Esse’ name. After WW2 Monark concentrated mainly on the manufacture of two-stroke lightweights while developing a world-class range of off-road competition machines that was used to good effect on numerous occasions by Sweden’s ISDT team. In addition to the lightweights, Monark also fielded ‘heavyweight’ four-stroke singles in moto-cross, winning the World Championship with Sten Lundin in 1959 and 1961, though on the latter occasion Lundin’s mount was badged as a Lito. This Monark sports roadster is powered by a 125cc Moto Morini engine and has a five-speed gearbox. Swedish registered, the machine is offered without documents and sold strictly as viewed. No reserve.
