Lot 338: 1964 Jaguar S-Type 3.8-Litre Racing Saloon
International Historic Motorsport Show, Bonhams (25th February 2006)
Built in 1997 using a bare bodyshell as the basis, this S-Type historic racing saloon first took to the track in 1998 and has been continually developed since then to good effect, winning its class in the JEC’s historic saloon series three years running and finishing 2nd in class in the HSCC championship (2004 and 2005).
Highlights of its impressive specification (a full listing is available for inspection) include a seam-welded bodyshell fitted with Safety Devices roll cage, fully welded and picking up on suspension mounts front and rear; lightened steel panels; front cross member fitted with polyurethane bushes and solidly mounted to chassis; up-rated anti-roll bar; high-ratio steering box; new rear suspension cage fitted with polyurethane bushes and solidly mounted; adjustable coil-over shocks with spare springs; Jaguar limited-slip differential modified by Roger Dowson Engineering and fitted with new bearings; independent front/rear braking systems; new vented discs all round; rebuilt AP calipers by B G Developments; Ferodo 3000 pads; braided brake lines front and rear; ultra lightweight fuel lines; twin Facet fuel pumps; and six-gallon fuel tank mounted in the spare wheel well.
A Jaguar all-synchromesh four-speed gearbox is linked to a fresh (zero miles since rebuild) XK 3.8-litre Sigma-prepared race engine featuring six-branch exhaust system (to 102 decibels); twin 2” SU carburettors on fabricated inlet manifold; Lumenition electronic ignition with adjustable rev limiter; and high-torque starter motor. Other noteworthy features include alternator electrics with new PVC wiring throughout; gel battery; alloy radiator; spot light recess modified to provide air ducting to carburettors and radiator; brake ducting below front bumper; and XJ-S lower air dam. The interior is fitted with a Corbeau seat with 3” harness; fully plumbed fire extinguisher; lightened dashboard with new walnut veneer; new oil pressure, water and oil temperature gauges plus rev counter; master toggle switch (replacing key); rear high-level fog lamp; and wiring for timing sensor and remote timer.
The car comes complete with one set of spare wheels, while also included are further eight wheels, spare doors, bonnet, boot lid, front wings, rear differential and numerous other spares (lights, etc) all of which are available for delivery post sale.
