Lot 111: Aston Martin DBS V8i
Classic - Collectors and Historic Motor Cars, Barons (18th March 2008)
The DBS V8 would be the last Aston Martin to carry, the DB tag until the DB7 of 1994. Designed by William Towns and first seen with the DOHC Straight-Six from the DB6, due to delays with the new Tadek Marek designed 5.3 litre, all alloy V8, DBS was first seen in the late sixties. The model remained in production until the late eighties, with various tweaks and upgrades along the way.
Offered here is one of the early S2 V8 cars, which were equipped with Bosch/Lucas fuel injection. These injected cars were produced in very limited numbers and are divided into Series One and Series Two cars by the AMOC. The series one V8 has the same, full width, chrome grill and twin headlights as the DBS6, while the series two has the new, single headlamp, black mesh grill and all an new front end. With 350bhp available these injected cars had a top speed of 160mph and a 0 to 60 time of around 5.4 seconds and are among the fastest of the V8's. With the limited production (around 405) numbers they are also among the rarest. This example is said to have spent much of its life in South America and is described as being very sound but requiring a repaint. It is equipped with the Tourquefilte automatic transmission, magnolia hide and should be eligible for free historic tax. The car has also been equipped with new Pirelli tyres and is said to drive well. With Aston Martin prices going through the roof, this early V8 offers an opportunity to acquire a rare model at a modest price and restore to your own specification.
