With fuel prices seemingly spiraling uncontrollably upwards, many will have contemplated some form of alternative transport, but the French have beaten us all to it, producing various microcars over the years.
This example was manufactured by SEAB in a suburb of Paris, alongside a doorless and roofless version named the Donky (sic). Power is from a 49cc two-stroke unit sourced from Motobcane, manufacturers of the Mobylette moped itself as much a French icon as the beret or Vin Rouge. Because of its incredibly lightweight construction, do not expect blistering performance, but a degree of practicality is provided. The machine has two doors, two seats and an opening rear window with a luggage compartment that would easily accommodate some essential groceries, including a baguette or two. For those that recall Clarkson's escapades in a microcar, this also has four wheels and a reverse gear!
Finished in beige gellcoat with blue gray cloth upholstery on the rudimentary seating, this example of a quirky but charming vehicle has never been registered for road use and has less than 20km recorded on the odometer.
