Lot 230: 1960 Velocette 347 cc Viper

In the post-WW2 period, Velocette began to find their trade-mark ‘cammy’ singles too expensive to make for the roadster market. Compounding this, they embarked on the costly and slow-selling ‘LE’ project, leaving the factory dependent on their pushrod 350 ‘single’, the MAC. Luckily, this was a fine machine, capable of being developed into the high-performance ‘Viper’, introduced in 1956 and a great success, preferred by many experienced solo riders to its counterpart, the ‘Venom’ 500.
207 AAH is a ‘Viper’ in the maker’s original black and red and in excellent condition, being carefully used for pleasure riding. Following a new dynamo being partly fitted in its late owner’s workshop, it will need full electrical checks as well as normal re-commissioning before road use. Representing an excellent opportunity to acquire a fine Velocette, 207 AAH is complete with V5 and an owner’s manual.
