Lot 01: Audi 100 LS
Classic & Historic Automobile, BCA (2nd October 2007)
Following on from the 80 and Super 90 models of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the 100 had a new front-wheel-drive design and was powered by a 1.8-litre engine. The new smooth styling was especially appealing and it was not long before the 100 was a strong competitor in the established 2-litre class, though it was more expensive than the popular offerings from Rover and Triumph. The specification included strut front suspension in place of the previous wishbones, whilst the torsion bar and beam rear axle were retained. The 100 remained in production until 1976, by which time the Audi marque had become a very familiar sight on British roads. The 100 LS saloon presented here has had just one registered owner from new and the recorded mileage of just over 17,000 is believed to be almost certainly correct. Finished in green with beige interior trim, it is said to be in a condition entirely commensurate with such a low mileage and it is said to drive well. Following a period of storage, a replacement stainless steel exhaust system has just been fitted.
