Lot 332: 1965 Porsche 911 Rally Coupe

This Porsche 911, which originally left the Stuttgart factory in 1965 and is therefore eligible for both MSA and FIA Historic category competition, has been fully prepped for special stage work, in which it has been extremely successful most notably on Manx and Irish tarmac events over a number of seasons. The under 2-litre motor on S cams and Weber 40s currently fitted (last rebuilt by leading 911 rally engine man Elkin Robinson in 2004), complies with UK and Irish regs, whilst a set of Solex 40 PI carbs as fitted in period are included where required by major Continental event scrutineers. 1993 FIA papers indicate Period F Type GTS eligibility. Unusual in right-hand drive, the car has the period-correct 5-speed gearbox with homologated ratios and direct top. The front-running spec includes dual-circuit master-cylinder, oil cooler, twin electric fuel pumps and ignition coils, under-shields front and back, 5 Minilites, heated screen, Momo steering wheel, Brantz trip, map-reading light and four extra bonnet-mounted spots (two currently fitted for road events). Crew are protected by 6-point roll-cage with side bars, Sparco high-back bucket seats, 6-point harnesses, electrically-actuated fire system and ATL fuel safety cell. Previous owners include marque specialist Francis Tuthill during early 1990s; 06/1993 Dave Bennett, for whom Gantspeed carried out back-to-shell rebuild for rallying; 05/1996 Porsche Dealer Principal Adrian Kermode whose Corkill Motor Sport subsidiary ran car 1996-2004; 10/2004 Tony Arnold with maintenance by XS-Racing until 09/2006 when acquired by vendor. Logbook and tax disc confirm current IOM-registration. The DVLC MOT certificate does not expire until October.
