Lot 107: Mercedes-Benz 300SL-24V

After 18 years in production the trusty 107SL was finally replaced in 1989 by the, all new, W129. While the styling of the 107 SL had borrowed, quite heavily, from the original "Pagoda SL" of the sixties, the 129 owed nothing to the past. This was definitely a car for the coming 1990's. The new car came with a lightweight hardtop (no more hernia's), which was released electrically and after 33 years of SL's Mercedes also managed to equip the new model with a power hood. The W129 could still be had with the traditional V8's but the new 104, 3.0 straight six was proving to be extremely popular. By 1991 the 24 valve version of this engine was introduced, giving the performance quite a boost and making the 300-24 the model of choice for a combination of economy and performanceOffered here is a 1992 example of a 24 valve 300SL.
