Lot 207: 1966 Triumph 99cc T 10
Collectors' Motorcycles, Bonhams (19th October 2008)
Originally called the ’Tina’, the second Triumph response to the scooter boom was the only uniquely Meriden one, the ‘Tigress’ being a re-badged BSA. The Hopwood-designed two-stroke ‘single’ was mounted in a spine frame and drove through a constantly variable, belt-drive transmission. Ease of operation was the intent, though this could be marred by difficult starting, if the ignition system had not been maintained. A light and clean scooter, the T10, much improved from the ‘Tina’, should have been a bigger success. BVC 851D is in very good condition in its original metallic red paint and has been in storage in a private collection for some time. Needing only the usual checks, it is complete with its RF.60 and V5.
