Lot 209: 1967 Aston Martin DB6

Fine Motor Cars And The Jaguar Legend, Coys (24th June 2006)

1967 Aston Martin DB6
In 1966, Aston Martin announced the DB6. It was to be the culmination of the firms numerically designated DB six cylinder cars. Some would say the DB6 was the finest of the line and there is no doubt the company had produced another stunning car worthy of superseding the now legendary DB5. With the introduction of the 6, came perhaps its best known and certainly most distinctive feature, that of the Kamm tail spoiler. It was no mere styling feature however as it truly did help with stability and was a proven aerodynamic aid. Indeed Motor magazine at the time said the tail lip halves aerodynamic lift at high speed. From the A pillar back any similarity to the previous models was quickly dispelled as with the Kamm tail came more styling changes. Front quarter lights were introduced and a more angled windscreen. The 4" longer wheelbase and taller roofline completed the styling changes and meant that the car could quite possible be called a 4 seater albeit not for long journeys! Motor magazine again said that the longer wheelbase made the car better balanced and the extra room made it available to a wider audience. When the DB5 was introduced the Tadek Marek designed 6 cylinder engine had been enlarged to 3995cc and this is the engines that also powered the new car. Triple SU carburettors gave a power of 282bhp and combined with the ZF 5 speed gearbox once again produced a true classic GT capable of high speed comfort and entertainment. This example featured today started life on the 27th February 1967 when it was delivered to Wilmslow Garages in Cheshire and registered to its new owner. The car was ordered in Dubonnet Rosso with Natural hide and Woburn Sand carpets. The vendor is the fourth owner and the car had been in storage due to bereavement since 1991 until the vendor purchased it last year. It was then the subject of a 6 month journey of comprehensive recommissioning. The car went to renowned marque specialist Desmond Smail. From minor electrical items to major mechanicals the car received the attention its fastidious owner felt it deserved. Included in the attention to detail, the braking system was renewed and modern alternator and auxiliary Kenlowe fan fitted. Negative earth connection and new head gasket were fitted amongst a myriad of other work right down to new copper nuts and washers! This was followed by a comprehensive under body rebuild courtesy of Aston London. A full photographic record is available but suffice to say any work needing to be done to return the car to its deserved condition was completed. The car already benefited from a recent respray, new tyres and wire wheels and today looks and drives extremely well. It has a modern CD head unit and electric aerial and windows with Sundym glass. The owner has reluctantly decided to part with the car as it is being replaced with another from the Aston stable. The car benefits from a new MOT until June 2007 and has been checked over having just returned from a charity rally. Included with the car is the balance of a fully transferable RAC Classis car warranty and Heritage Certificate. The car looks terrific with its superbly detailed engine bay and original interior and is offered he with the registration number 4 HXS. This surely represents an opportunity to acquire a stunning road ready and fully fettled example of this rapidly appreciating Aston Martin.
