Lot 23: MG Midget 1500

Apart from a break of just six years between 1955 and 1961, a model bearing the Midget designation was to be a feature of the MG range from 1929 with the advent of the 'M' Type right up until 1979 with the final 1500cc version. It is one of the final series that we offer today. Dating from 1978, this example is extremely distinctive and in quite exceptional condition having been the subject of a ground-up restoration by the previous owner to an extremely high standard around ten years ago. Various upgrades to the specification were undertaken, which included overdrive on third and top gear, large capacity radiator, Kenlowe electric fan, electronic ignition, oil cooler and a radio/cassette player. The car was entered into a number of MGOC concours events following its completion in 1997 and gained first class awards at the Surrey MG National, Northern MG National, the MGOC National Event and the Autoglym Concours that year, finally achieving the much coveted 'MG of the Year Award' 1997, at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Tastefully finished in two-tone Silver and Grey, the car is still in close-to-concours condition and extremely appealing. Since the restoration was completed it has only covered just over 11,000 miles, having been used only in fine weather. Included with the car are the 1963 Surrey registration number, 7708 PE, and copies of photographs taken during the restoration, previous MOT certificates and sundry additional documentation. A Swansea V5 and MOT certificate valid until September 2006 are also included.
