Lot 129: MG MGC Roadster
Jaguar Heritage Auction, Barons (11th June 2006)
The MGC came along in 1967 but MG designers had been toying with the idea of a six cylinder sports car since the late 50's. With the demise of the Big Healey on the cards BMC took the plunge and the MGC was born. Production numbers were low and after less than two full years the model was dropped, which makes them a rarity today, especially in nice condition. With only 9,000 cars built, which was split equally between Roadster and GT, the 120mph, 145bhp MGC is not only rare it is also a reasonable performer. This 1969 example of the roadster is said to have been originally supplied by Carey and Lambert, the Southampton BMC dealer The first owner kept the car for 3 years then sold it to a friend, who, in turn, sold it to a work colleague in 1976. This owner kept the car for 24 years, during which, it spent 18 years on blocks before undergoing a full restoration. By 2000 it had found a new home with a mutual friend of the vendor where it was treated to a new veneer dash in 2000 and new hood and chrome wires in 2001.Finished in Primrose yellow with black leather interior, the car has remained in the Southampton area since new. Since 1976, servicing has been carried out by an ex Carey & Lambert motor engineer and the car has been kept in good order throughout. The vendor acquired the car in 2004 but has found little time to use it, so has decided to offer it for sale, hoping that it will find an appreciative new owner. It is offered complete with a relatively new tonneau cover and dust cover
