Lot 212: Jaguar 420 Saloon
Classics Cars, Barons (10th September 2006)
The 420 Saloon is the rarest of all of the Jaguar saloon range of the 1960's. Introduced in 1966 and deleted in 1968 only 9801 examples were built. This included lhd examples. As a distinct model it is the rarest of all but even if one adds in the Daimler version, total production is still under 16,000.Very similar to the MKX in style, the 420 was a much smaller car, more akin to the S-Type that the MKX/420G. It did however benefit from the independent rear suspension layout, very generous cabin space and the same equipment levels as its bigger brother. This example has recently benefited from a rebuilt and unleaded compatible engine, by well know specialists VSE and, with only 3000 miles covered since the rebuild, is only just "run-in". The car is also equipped with Aldon Electronic ignition, Stainless steel (chrome) wire wheels, stainless steel exhaust system and a very original interior, with the exception of the headlining, which has recently been renewed.Finished in midnight blue with red leather, the car is said to have excellent bodywork, which would appear to be rust free. It has the 4.2 litre XK dohc engine and Borg Warner, 3 speed, automatic transmission and is offered complete with a extensive history file, plus an MoT and historic tax through to February 2007.Grossly undervalued at the moment and a really superb way to travel.
