Lot 06: Rover 216 CABRIOLET

The second generation 200 was the first new model introduced by the recently privatised Rover Group, continuing their engineering collaboration with Honda. The Rover was built alongside the European model Honda Concerto and, while the 1.4-litre models used the new Rover K-Series engine, 1.6-litre 216 models used the Honda-built D16A6 SOHC or D16A8 DOHC units. In 1991 a convertible version was announced, featuring a full 4/5seat cabin and a usable boot with the hood folding down in to a well behind the rear seats. Structural rigidity was maintained by the use of an integral roll-over bar acting as a strengthening member. Powered by the twin-cam 16-valve Honda unit, the 216 Cabriolet was a refined and sophisticated convertible with surprisingly sprightly performance and handling. Dating from 1992, this 216 Cabriolet was first registered to a titled lady and benefits from an extensive service history with 15 services recorded in the service book and a timing belt replacement having been carried out less than 4,000 miles ago. Finished in turquoise metallic with a grey leather trimmed interior and grey hood, it has obviously been well cared for with the current mileage standing at c.63,000. The original hood cover is present and entertainment is provided by an upgraded JVC stereo system. A large file of documents accompanies the car and includes the original handbooks, service book mentioned above, service invoices, MOT certificates, etc. Also included are the V5C document attesting to the cherished number included in the sale and a current MOT certificate valid to May 2009.
