Lot 443: 1965 Jaguar 340 Saloon
True Greats, Coys (1st December 2005)
One of the most revered and successful Jaguars ever made, the Mark II proved a hit with the public and was still selling strongly ten years after its introduction. The final incarnation of the legendary Mark II Jaguar was unveiled in September 1967, the revised models known as the 240 and 340. Distinguishable externally by the slimmer bumpers and hubcaps from the S-Type. Mechanical changes were limited to ribbed camshaft covers and a new Borg Warner Model 35 automatic transmission. In production for just two years before the new XJ6 was unveiled, the 340 is quite rare with just 2,265 examples built in right-hand drive. A road test by Autosport in 1968 proved just how quick the 340 was with 0-100km/h coming up in 8.8 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h not bad even by the standards of today. The 340 is an excellent choice today, offering all the technical developments and improvements made to the Mark II over the life of the model such as the all-synchro gearbox and Varamatic power steering. The car presented here is finished in grey and has benefited from a full body restoration and respray. Since this work has been carried out the car has remained in storage. DDG 360C comes with its original buff log book, V5 registration document and a large history file containing original operating, maintenance and service handbooks, past V5's, old MoT's, photographs of the car, invoices and past tax discs.
