Lot 105: 1981 Porsche 911 Turbo - One owner from new
True Greats, Coys (30th November 2006)
When the Porsche 911 was introduced in 1963 it was a highly advanced design, typical of the dynasty bearing the Porsche name. Effectively it was a logical development of the 356, with a rear mounted air cooled engine, although in the new car it was a flat six. In 1976 Porsche introduced a turbocharged version of their three litre 911, called simply, "Turbo", and instantly the car was a huge hit. It was one of the fastest cars of the day, with 160mph top speed and 0-60mph acceleration in 5.4 seconds, figures that put it firmly into the newly emergent "Supercar" league, along with the likes of Ferrari's Boxer and Lamborghini's Countach, the only two real competitors to the Turbo. Continuing the philosophy of ongoing improvement a 3.3 litre version of the Turbo was introduced, boasting 300bhp and even better performance, with a top speed approaching 170mph. Massive drilled and ventilated disc brakes with huge calipers, as fitted to the firm's 917 sports prototype racing cars, were utilised to haul the car down from the phenomenal speeds which it could now achieve. On offer today is a superb one owner from new example manufactured in 1981. The car has only covered 44,078 miles from new and as you would expect from such a low mileage car it's in very good condition. The car was ordered from new in Germany by the present owner and has been regularly serviced by AFN with the last service by Porsche specialists Autofarm. The car is finished in the desirable colour scheme of black with black leather and is supplied with all old MoT certificates including a current certificate valid until March next year. The original handbook and owner's manual are included in the comprehensive history file along with a V5 and all bills and receipts for the aforementioned servicing. Included with the car are the original Porsche insignia dust cover and battery charger as well as the original unused KPH speedometer/odometer and the original left hand drive headlamps should the car reside on the Continent.
