Lot 123: Rover P2 12 Open Tourer
Classic - Collectors and Historic Motor Cars, Barons (12th February 2008)
The Rover Company was founded in back in the 1890's and took to car manufacture in 1904. Rover cars were a mix of large and small saloons, until, in the late thirties, they turned to building more mid-rage models. This began with the Rover 10 and 12 and was carried through to the 16 of the pre and immediate, post-war period. The 1950 P4 was an all-new model, being influenced by the American designs of the time.Offered here is a very rare Rover 12 with 4 seat Open Tourer coachwork. The model was only offered during the 1947 model year and was built in very limited numbers. Known as a well designed and well proportioned car with a clever hood mechanism enabling the whole assembly to fold away below the rear deck.Finished in BRG with suede green hide, the car is equipped with a four-cylinder 1495cc engine, which is mated to a 4-speed, manual transmission. The car is said to be eminently useable and is complete with a history file, which includes previous MoT certificates and various invoices.
