Lot 106: Jaguar 420 Saloon

The Jaguar 420/Daimler Sovereign has the shortest production run of any Jaguar saloon. Introduced in October 1966 and phased out in September 1968, in Jaguar guise and July 69 as a Daimler, the 420 was a restyled S-Type looking more like a MKX/420G with the upright grill and quad headlamps. The interior was also more MKX than S-Type but they would all be replaced by the world-beating XJ6 in 1968.This 1967 example is said to be in excellent condition. The car was, from 1985 to 1999, part of the Duncan Fearnley Collection (of cricket bat manufacture and Worcestershire Cricket Club fame.) The subject of a recent front and rear suspension re-newel, rear axle re-build and top-end engine overhaul, it is also fitted with the rare manual + overdrive transmission, which is said to be working perfectly.The car is said to drive very well indeed, with good oil pressure and smooth power delivery. The vendor has also fitted later, S3 XJ6, front seats, which have headrests for added comfort and safety.Finished in opalescent metallic blue with contrasting navy blue hide and sitting on chrome wire wheels, the car is offered complete with a large history file and is said to be in good condition throughout.
