Lot 346: 1968 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 litre Saloon

Motor Cars, Bonhams (24th March 2007)

1968 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 litre Saloon
With a top speed of 120mph and 0-60mph acceleration in 10 seconds, Daimler’s 4.2 litre, six cylinder Sovereign was one of the quickest Daimlers to be offered by the company. Derived from the Jaguar XJ6, it was readily identified by the traditional Daimler fluted radiator surround and the interior was furnished in best Daimler traditions with finest quality leather hide upholstery to the seats, polished figured walnut instrument panel and deep pile wool carpets, sufficiently individual to satisfy Daimler’s established clientele. This remarkable car has been in the same family ownership for thirty-nine years, has been meticulously maintained by its late garage proprietor owner and until recently, for twenty years or so, was dry-stored on support stands. This exceptional car was built to an exceedingly high specification, factory fitted options including gas flowed cylinder head, 9:1 compression ratio E-type cylinder head, steering lock, chrome wire wheels, extra 10 gallon fuel tank, electrically heated front windscreen and a Bray mains electric engine heater. Additional extras fitted by the owner include an immobiliser, Philips and Radiomobile radio sets, an eight track M/L radio set, a Sony cassette player and a Radiomobile cassette player. Special magnesium alloy Minilite wheels with spline fittings were commissioned for this car, a radiator grille muffler and stainless steel exhaust system complete the high specification. The car is presented in Old English White livery with blue upholstery which has been immaculately conserved, being fitted with seat covers from new. The vendors report no accident damage or repairs ever with only minor stone chip paintwork carried out. Before leaving the Jaguar factory at Browns Lane this car was personally road tested by ‘Lofty’ England. At the time of cataloguing the recorded mileage was just 41,950 miles and in more recent years the car has seen fair weather use only, mainly attending car shows. Although presently fitted with the aforementioned Minilite wheels a complete set of original chrome wire wheels are offered with this manual gearbox car. The car is offered with a Swansea registration document, current MoT certificate to October 2007 and road fund licence.
