Lot 46: Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster

Development on Jaguar's new V12 engine had commenced as early as 1968, but it was not until 1971 that it made its debut in the new Series III E-Type.  This engine displaced 5.3 litres and delivered a silky smooth performance with a power output of 272bhp.  Visually, the Series III was distinguished from its predecessor by subtle changes  the most obvious of which were the flared wheel arches to accommodate the larger tyres and the enlarged air intake grille  and, as with earlier models, a large proportion of production was destined for export.Acquired by the vendor during 1989, the Series III Roadster presented here is finished in Primrose yellow and has manual transmission.  It is a left-hand-drive USA specification model that has undergone refurbishment previously, which has included a bare metal repaint with twelve coats of cellulose.  The black leather upholstery has been renewed and the car sits on wire wheels which are shod with Pirelli P4000 tyres.  The recorded mileage stands at 33,800, believed by the vendor to be correct, and the specification includes air conditioning.Documentation supplied with this motor car includes a Swansea V5C and a recently renewed MOT certificate.
