Lot 131: 1951 Lagonda 2.6 Drophead Rapide

Following the acquisition of Aston Martin and Lagonda in the mid-to-late 1940's, and amalgamation of the two into one company, it had always been David Brown's ambition to compliment the Aston Martin line-up with a high performance, full four seater luxury saloon. The new model arrived shortly afterwards in 1948 as the Lagonda 2.6 Litre, available as a four door saloon or 2 door convertible.The new cars were powered by a 2.6 litre, twin overhead cam, straight six engine, designed by W.O. Bentley, founder and former owner of Bentley Motors. The bodywork was of less radical design, its rounded front styling conflicting with many pre-war styling points. The 2.6 Litre stayed into production until 1953 with 510 examples produced. An interesting point to note is that the same engine appeared in the Aston Martin DB2 which appeared in 1950, also owned by David Brown.This handsome car, finished in the traditional colour scheme of silver over grey is presented in nice original condition and comes with its original buff log book. An appealing and honestly presented car that will make a rewarding addition to any collection.
