Lot 456: Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS 327 2-Door Coupe

Filling the gap in the Chevrolet catalogue between the full-size Biscayne and Impala ranges and the front-engined Chevy II semi-compact and Nova series, the 1964-launched Chevelle proved to be one of GM's most successful models. With its own line of 6-cylinder or V8 engine options and performance packages, this more stylish and upmarket newcomer was to remain in production until 1977. In contrast to the Chevy II, which employed integral construction, this was the first Chevy to use the Corporation's perimeter-type frame, which was standardised on the full-size cars in 1965. The leader of the Chevelle pack was the SS, early pre-1965 versions of which were badged 'Malibu SS. Providing the Chevrolet marque with a most effective and potent entry into the midsize muscle car market, the 327 cubic inch powered range topper rapidly became the top selling variant. For along with the GTO from the Pontiac family, this, the hottest Chevelle remains one of the coolest of the Sixties American automobiles for street or track. The early Malibu SS 327 offered here - which first came to the UK in 1997 and has all import taxes paid and a V5C registration document - features the muscle car defining 'Malibu SS' script on the rear quarter panel. Repainted in red with matching red interior, wood-rim wheel, tinted windows and polished alloys, the 4642cc capacity V8 engined 2-door has auto-shift and power-assisted steering. Both tax disc and MOT are valid until July 2010.
