Lot 202: Jaguar E-Type S2 4.2 2+2
Jaguar Heritage and Classic Cars, Barons (1st May 2007)
The E-Type originally came in Roadster and FHC form but the 2+2 was added to satisfy the American market (by far the largest) in the mid sixties. The FHC and Roadster were built using the original, shorter floorpan but the 2+2 was quite a bit longer, allowing the insertion of a fold-away rear seat. This additional seating meant that a family man (or woman) could now have an E-Type without feeling guilty. With the seats in the folded position, the 2+2 also offered an enormous amount of luggage space, which made it a superb Grand Tourer for two. This 1970 example is finished in Carmen red with beige leather and is described as being in generally good condition. Equipped with the 4.2 litre version of the famous XK engine and a 4 speed manual transmission the car is said to have covered only 58,000 miles from new. Offered complete with a documented history, which has been kept in a diary and supports the mileage as being correct. The vendor has covered only 6,000 miles since 1980, when he acquired the car from a colleague who had owned it for three years and had bought it from the original lady owner. Lovely mileage, low owners and excellent history.
