Lot 342: 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster

Collectors Motor Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia, Bonhams & Butterfields (6 May 2006)

The vendor purchased this Series III Jaguar E-type (XKE) in 2001 in Newton, MA. The car is understood to have resided in Florida prior to that date and we are advised that its condition suggested that was the case. Since then the car has been housed in dry, heated storage and maintained, no expense spared, by one of Connecticut's most notable Jaguar specialists. Over $25,000 (receipts available) has been spent in the last five years in order to maintain the car and restore its authenticity and quality to a level where it has been a consistent winner in car shows throughout the Northeast. Shown at both Jaguar Club of North America (JCNA) and non-JCNA events over the past four seasons, this car has won nine JCNA events with an average score of 9.962 points in the Driven Division. It has been voted "Best in Show - Driven" on two occasions and came third in the nation in 2005. The current mileage reads 32,771 miles (January 2006), and the vendor guarantees that the car has only been driven approximately 1,500 miles in each of the last five years.

This is the more desirable ‘stick shift’ (four-speed manual) version of the XKE, that enables the driver to take full advantage of its powerful V12 engine. The quality and color (azure blue) of the exterior paintwork is absolutely authentic and never fails to inspire admiration. (Not many Series III of this color were imported into the USA). Carpets and the seats have all recently been completely restored by BAS Ltd using authentic materials, as has the hood/soft top. The car has its original radio, still in working order. The tires are in good condition, and the car is equipped with factory-fitted optional wire wheels, generally considered more attractive than the more common standard-issue steel wheels.

The car has a framed certificate from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (included with it) that guarantees the authenticity and originality of the chassis, engine, gearbox and exterior/interior colors. Also included are copies of this model’s Operating, Service and Maintenance Handbook and Repair Operation Manual. One of the best of its kind in the Northeast, this award-winning XKE V12 is offered with State of Connecticut registration Certificate.
