Lot 40: Bentley MK VI SPORTS SALOON BY HOOPER
'The Brooklands Tradition' Vintage & Thoroughbred, BCA (5th June 2008)
The second example of the Bentley Mk VI on offer today, this motor car, chassis number B288CF, has especially elegant 'Teviot'-style coachwork by Hooper. Tastefully finished in Oxford over Saxon blue, with grey hide upholstery, the motor car has been in the hands of its present custodian for the past ten years having formed part of a collection of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars. During this time it has been sparingly used, covering no more than 1500 miles per annum. Copies of the chassis card and build detail drafts dated 20th April 1948 are provided, and other information supplied shows the car to have been supplied to its first owner, a Dr H A C Gregory of Stamford, Lincolnshire, on 4th June that year. A list of subsequent owners is also provided. Described as mechanically excellent throughout, the vehicle is reported to have won various BDC and RREC awards in the past and has featured in various films and TV series including a recent episode of 'Miss Marple'. One of just two known survivors with this graceful coachwork, the car has been meticulously maintained with all work having been carried out by Rolls-Royce specialists and it is said to drive very well, feeling taut and precise on the road. The documentation supplied also includes a number of previous MOT certificates, a V5C registration document attesting to the original London index number, the aforementioned build details and sundry additional paperwork. A current MOT certificate is also provided, this being valid until 21st November 2008.
