Lot 124: 1990 Aston Martin Virage
Summer 2005, Coys (1st August 2005)
With less than three years between conception and display, the Virage was truly a miracle case for Aston Martin Lagonda. In 1986 A.M.L had a two door Lagonda development car on the road and had also announced a design competition for budding Aston Martin designers. The winners, Ken Greenly and John Heffernan, had created a large, modern GT - with an evolutionary link straight back to the DB4. Reeves Callaway in the US reworked the 5.3 litre V8 engine with four valves per cylinder, Weber fuel injection, a clean exhaust and an output of 330 bhp. Shown at the 1988 Birmingham Motor Show in Coupe form, with first deliveries in 1990, the sensational new Virage re-stated its forerunner's muscular looks in the modern idiom, slightly narrower but with increased interior space. With 330bhp, a top speed approaching 160mph was possible and 60mph in under 7 seconds. The Virage has a look of Menace, even when stationery. It sets new standards in speed and comfort. You will not find another car of this capability with such bespoke luxury. Presented in Lagonda red with slate grey hide piped in dark red and grey carpets piped in dark red including as well as a fully matching set of Aston Martin embossed overrugs. This car has covered just 18,500 miles from new and backed up by a very complete Aston Martin service history. The original Aston Martin service book is with the vehicle showing some 14 stamps of which 9 are from the factory. The current custodian has only ever had it looked after by the factory and the last full service was about 300 miles ago at a recorded mileage of 16,483. The history shows an oddometer change by the factory in July 1993 when the speedometer was set to zero. The previous stamp records a mileage of 1,626. Included in the history are several invoices from the factory and from Aston Martin main dealer HWM. The MOT runs till June 2006 and there are a total of eight previous MOT's within the accompanying history file. The car is complete with the original owners hand book, service book, warranty and even still carries a complete tool kit along with the 1st aid kit issued with the car and all the original keys. 18 inch Virage Volante alloys are fitted to each corner with tunes coming from a six disc Sony multi changer and category one alarm system. The cherished registration mark H5 AMV will be included in the sale.
