Lot 307: 1972 Porsche 911 RS Lightweight Replica
Sports, Competition & Collectors Motor Cars, Bonhams (19th September 2008)
A Porsche Cars of North America Certificate of Authenticity confirms that the 1972-manufactured Porsche started life as a 911T/E in Tangerine with Cinnamon leatherette interior and both the chassis and engine numbers declared, while an AFN Heritage Certificate from July 1999 records first supply to the US. Having returned to Europe and being German registered in February 1999, 9113100606 was converted by PS Automobile of Dortmund for the previous owner to what is a most authentic RS specification. The left-hand drive car was first UK registered in July of that year and acquired by the vendor July 2008.
The 2.4-litre engine, the original Type 911/51, has mechanical fuel injection, which has just been serviced, the fuel system benefitting from new seals and neoprene rocker seals fitted (ugrading to 2.7-litres capacity, a well charted conversion, could always be an option at some time). The 4-speed transmission, number 230121, is also original to the car. Heat exchangers, dual-exhaust system and brake pipes are all in stainless steel. The brake discs are ventilated and the alloy front calipers rebuilt. Suspension components are powder-coated, the dampers Bilstein, and an under-slung anti-roll bar and alloy front suspension towers brace have been added. 7J and 8J Fuch alloys are shod with new Dunlops.
The coupe bodywork with RS front spoiler and whale tail are painted in Porsche white with model-correct RS decals in red, while windscreen and window rubbers have been renewed. Period Scheel bucket seats with headrests have been recovered in black vinyl with grey cloth inserts and Willans full harnesses installed in an interior largely replaced during refurbishment. The RS door panels are new as is the dash top with door tops and centre dash area trimmed in leather, the gauges 911S. Unusually for so many 911s from this era, period-correct twin battery boxes are still intact in the inner wings with fresh Bosch Silver batteries fitted, the luggage compartment with new carpeting presenting particularly well.
Apart from current UK V5C registration document, all former MOTs as well as latest certificate and historic vehicle eligible tax-free disc valid until November, and copies of 911/T/E/S driverÂs and service booklets, PKE 332P also has a newly issued FIVA Identity card no.032203 to facilitate a new owner to take part in International Historic Regularity Rallies.
