Lot 24: Triumph TR6

Triumph freshened up its TR range in 1968 and introduced the Karmann-styled TR6. The TR6 sported a more aggressive body with revised front and rear end styling although the centre section remained the same as the TR4 and TR5. For the UK market, the straight-six fuel-injected 150bhp 2,498cc engine also carried over from the previous TR5 model, although after 1972 it was changed for a milder 125bhp unit. To meet stricter emissions controls in the American market, US cars were fitted with Zenith-Stromberg carburettors in place of fuel-injection which slightly blunted power, although the car was still very sprightly and could hit 60mph in just 10 seconds on its way to a top speed of 120mph. Dating from the very first year of production, this US-spec car was imported from America in 1989 and converted to right-hand drive. It has had just one owner for the last 20 years and is said to be in good condition throughout with exceptionally sound and straight bodywork. Resprayed in the original Jasmine Yellow about eight years ago, it was also fitted with new sills. The diff has also been rebuilt and the car comes with a rare factory steel hard top and a good mohair soft top. With an MOT until September 2009, it is only reluctantly being sold because the owner has been posted abroad.
