Lot 150: BMW 840 Coupe
Classic, Collectors & Sports Cars, Barons (27th October 2009)
Design of the 8 Series began in 1984, with construction starting in 1986. The 8 Series debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in early September 1989. The 8 Series was designed to move beyond the market of the original 6 Series. The 8 and 6 Series cars were distinctly different in design and the 8 Series had substantially improved performance, as well as a far higher purchase price.
The model was available with the 296bhp V12 or the, oriiginal, 4.0 V8, which was expanded to 4.4 litre in 1996, which gave the same 292bhp.
Offered here is an 840Ci 4.4 litre from the final year of production. It is said to have benefited from a full BMW service and all new tyres, in April 2009, costing £3300 and is believed to have covered just 76500 miles, though this is not warranted as correct.
Finished in silver grey with cream leather, piped blue, the car is complete with both tax and MoT through to April 2010.
The photograph is of a similar but not identical car.
