Lot 107a: 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280 CE

Mercedes-Benz coupes have always offered a particular blend of comfort, refinement and performance and the V114 range introduced in 1971 was no different. Available in either 250 or 280CE guise, the cars shared the chassis of the outgoing W108 series but with new two door pillar less coupe with low roofline. Underneath, the all independent suspension remained as before, i.e.: wishbone/coil spring at the front and a coil sprung swing axle at the rear, while the all round disc brakes were both larger and uprated to cope with the extra performance that was provided by either the familiar single overhead camshaft, 2,496cc straight six engine or a new 2,746cc version with twin overhead camshafts. Both employed Bosch electronic fuel injection pushing out 185bhp at 6,600rpm. This fine condition example finished in Orient red with a cream leather interior is described as in generally good order by the current owner. The car is showing some 72,000 miles having had a speedo change in 1990.
