Lot 338: 1929 Ford Model A Pick-Up
True Greats, Coys (5th December 2007)
In 1903, the same year Henry Ford founded Ford Motor Company in the United States of America, two Ford Model A cars were shipped from Detroit to Great Britain - the very first Ford cars to arrive on our shores. Even Henry Ford could not have imagined what the next hundred years would bring for his company. No one knew just how far reaching the impact of this light commercial vehicle, the earliest 'Ford Transit', would be on the social, cultural and economic framework of Britain. Manufactured in 1929 for the home market in America where it resided until 1998, it was subsequently imported to Britain. Following the pick-up's arrival it underwent a comprehensive restoration over 1998/'99 with all the work lovingly carried out by the owner himself who had the benefit of owning a repair centre/garage. As one would expect from a recent restoration, the vehicle is in good condition throughout and is 'on the button', while the three litre, four cylinder engine, mated to a three speed gearbox, provides plenty of torque. This pick-up is more than capable of cruising at a happy 60mph and has a canvas hood protecting the driver and passenger from buffeting wind and poor weather. Supplied with SV7 003 is a V5 registration document, MoT certificate valid until October 2008 and a full year's road fund licence.
