Lot 307: 1975 Aston Martin DB 2R Recreation by ARA Racing

British & Continental Sports & Touring Motor Cars, Coys (29th March 2008)

1975 Aston Martin DB 2R Recreation by ARA Racing
With only two original Aston Martin DBR2s in the world, both of which are in America, and with each valued at in excess of £5 million, it is little surprise that those of us with slightly less prodigious pockets would want to feel the thrill of the next best thing. This is one of very few DBR2 replicas in Europe. It was professionally assembled by ARA Racing Ltd and boasts both stunning looks and mechanical components. It has its own unique tubular spaceframe chassis, the rear end houses a de Dion axle with Watt linkage (just like the original), the front hubs are machined from billet aluminium and the suspension is fully rose-jointed and with adjustable coil-over-dampers all round. Power is supplied by a 1961 3.4 litre straight six Jaguar engine which has been converted to run on lead-free petrol; a stainless steel exhaust system, including the manifold, further enhance the appearance and helps provide all the right noises. Covering it all is a hand-laid glassfibre body, the wheel arches of which are skinned in aluminium, as are the cockpit, boot and engine bay, finished in Brooklands Racing Green and complete with authentic racing decals. Inside the car there are four point racing seat harnesses, an authentic style, MotoLita wood rim steering wheel and a full set of authentic instruments. Supplied with both German registration papers and German historic papers, this real eye catcher is offered at fraction of the cost of the real thing and is perfectly suited for the coming spring and summer months. This is a rare chance to get an insight into owning one of the worlds most famous and rarest of racing legends, and one that is ready to drive on the road or track.
