Lot 103: Mercedes-Benz 300SL
Classics Cars, Barons (10th September 2006)
The Mercedes SL was updated in 1971 but the new car borrowed heavily from the 1960's "Pagoda". Though bigger and heavier, the new car managed to retain the classic looks and the model continued to be the choice of the rich and famous. A Mercedes SL was de rigueur in any self respecting American TV soap during the eighties. The new SL remained in production for 18 years and retained the same basic bodyshell, suspension and interior layout but engines grew from the original 350 V8 to a 560V8 and a 300 straight six, with various options along the way. The most sought after 107 SL today is the 300, which has the later 3.0 straight six and offers a combination of excellent performance with good economyThis 1986 example is said to be in good condition bodily, having benefited from a full repaint in the recent past. The car has a long MoT through to July 2007 and is offered with previous MoT certificates and some history.
