Lot 115: Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet

Using the 924 as a starting point for the 944, Porsche thoroughly re-worked the platform and scrapped the Volkswagen engine, installing in its place a new 2.5 litre straight-4 engine based on the 928's 5.0 litre V8, although very few parts were actually interchangeable. This new engine was factory-rated at 147 bhp. The 944 had more aggressive, revised bodywork, similar to that of the 924 Turbo and 924 Carrera GT, a fresh interior and upgrades to the braking and suspension systems. Porsche introduced the 944 in 1982/83 to great anticipation. In addition to being faster, the 944 was better equipped and more refined than the 924, it had better handling and stopping power and was more comfortable to drive.In 1989 944S2 was introduced, with a new 3.0 211bhp engine. The 944S2 had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the Turbo model and was now available as a Cabriolet, a first for the 944 range.Offered here is an early S2 Cabriolet. Which is finished in Grand Prix white and is said to be in outstanding condition and is equipped with a power hood, leather interior and alloy road wheels.
