Lot 028: 1970 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER SHADOW MPW TWO-DOOR SALOON

Hand-crafted by Mulliner Park Ward, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Two-Door Saloon was introduced in 1966 (a year after its less rarefied four-door sibling). The work of in-house stylist W.G. Allen, the saloon-cum-coupe boasted a wonderfully sleek wing line that 'kicked up' over its rear wheels. Blending speed with refinement in a way that few (if any) rivals could match, it was powered by a 6230cc OHV V8 engine (later upgraded to 6750cc) allied to automatic transmission. Trimmed with a superlative mix of sumptuous leather hides, rich wood veneers and deep lambswool carpets, the model was every bit as luxurious as it was expensive. Despite being in production for five years, just 606 MPW Two-Door Saloons are thought to have been made. Supplied new to the vendor by H.R. Owen of London in 1971, 'OO 999' is believed to have covered circa 30,000 miles from new. Reportedly "kept in a heated lock-up garage" and "used solely for special occasions", the MPW Two-Door is said to "drive superbly". Though, apparently it is just the seller, his father and a chauffeur who have had the pleasure of sitting behind the wheel. Finished in Seychelles Blue with blue leather upholstery, we are further informed that 'OO 999' is in "good" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Indeed, the Rolls-Royce is only being offered for sale because it is now incompatible with its custodian's country hopping existence. Summed-up as "a wonderful car with an interesting number plate", this handsome one-owner MPW Two-Door is accompanied by a MOT certificate valid until November 8th 2007.
