Lot 201: 1972 Steyr Puch 650S
AutoSport 2008, Coys (12th January 2008)
Austrian manufacturer Steyr built a diverse range of cars up until the outbreak of World War Two, some of which were designed by Ferdinand Porsche. Following the end of the war Steyr became Steyr-Puch and built licence-assembled versions of Fiat models, while in later years Steyr-Puch formed partnerships with Volkswagen, Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz building 4x4 systems. The Steyr-Puch 650S is based on the Fiat 500 bodyshell with a Steyr engine and running gear. This car, manufactured on 2nd May 1974, is totally stunning in every way and a complete show stopper. Completely rebuilt both bodily and mechanically with fresh paint work in yellow and black and a brand new folding roof, the car also benefits from period bucket seats, new carpets, original Steyr steering wheel and full instrumentation, as well all the correct badges and the original Steyr engine cover. With a fully rebuilt engine now incorporating 750cc pistons and barrels, special camshafts, twin choke Weber carburettors and Monte Carlo four branch exhaust system, this right-hand drive car is not only extremely quick but also a scream to drive; RKO 288N also stops well with front disc brakes and it rides on Borrani style wheels. Road fund licence exempt, it is supplied with a MoT test certificate valid until August 2008 and V5 registration document.
