Lot 05: Mercedes-Benz 250 Limousine
Sale of Classic and Collectors' Motor Vehicles, BCA (19th February 2007)
The word limousine, when applied to a coachbuilt saloon car, is derived from the hood traditionally worn by natives of the Limousin region of France, which was of a similar profile. Many and varied are the subjects for the coachbuilders' conversions, from the more accepted large saloon cars from prestige manufacturers, to the outrageous and ridiculous such as Minis, Fiat 500s etc.Based on an extended W123 Mercedes platform, this example has occasional seating for an extra three passengers, or, when folded, copious legroom for the rear passengers, this arrangement allowing the carriage of up to seven passengers in addition to the driver. The upholstery is in blue velour with the coachwork in metallic blue, both described as being in good condition with the exception of a few chips to the paint. All other fittings are also said to be good, as is the mechanical condition of the 6-cylinder petrol engine and running gear, as would be expected with an indicated 92,000 miles. Road wheels are the optional Mercedes Benz alloys.
