Lot 119: Bentley Turbo R

The 135 mph Bentley Turbo R was launched at the Geneva Show in March, 1985. It was said that the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo should remain in production too but it soon became apparent that the Mulsanne Turbo was totally outclassed by the Bentley Turbo R. Modified front and rear suspension, the first-time use of alloy wheels, wider tyres, and a front air dam put the car's handling in the thoroughbred sports car category. The Bentley Turbo R achieved a sales figure which made it one of Rolls-Royce's best-ever selling models, which is probably why it remained in production until 1994.With its 6.7 litre V8 engine and Garret Air Search turbo charger, the Turbo R produced vast amounts of power while the aforementioned chassis modifications and uprated brakes took care of the stopping and handling.This example is offered complete with the original service booklet, which has a large number of service stamps, plus details of a speedometer head change at 50,000 miles. The car is said to be in good, all round condition and is finished in Royal blue metallic with beige hide interior piped blue.The vendor does state that he has recently spent (March 2006) nearly £3,000 at Jack Barclay on suspension work, including replacement springs and spring seats.Outstanding value for money.
