Lot 131: Porsche 911 (964) RS Touring
Jaguar Heritage + Classic & Collectors Motor Cars, Barons (29th April 2008)
In 1992, Porsche produced a lightweight, 2 wheel drive (rear) version of the 964 dubbed Carrera RS for the European market. The car was based on Porsche's 911 "Carrera Cup" race car and harked back to the 2.7 and 3.0 RS and RSR models. The 92 RS featured a revised blueprinted version of the standard engine, with an increased power output of 260 bhp, a lightened flywheel and a coupled to a close ratio version of the G50/10 transmission with asymmetrical Limited Slip Differential and steel syncromesh. The design of the suspension system was based on the race car, with 40 mm lower ride height, stiffer springs and shocks, plus adjustable stabiliser bars and no power steering. The pure RS came with minimal interior, no power steering, windows or seats, no rear seats, air conditioning, cruise control, sound deadening or a stereo system. Racing-style bucket front seats were part of the package. The bonnet was made of aluminium and the chassis was seam welded and sound deadening was deleted. The Cup 1 wheels were made of lightweight Magnesium. The Touring version or the RS was far rarer with only 76 made and came with sound deadening, underseal, a power seat option and electric windows . Offered here is a 1992 RS Touring version, which is equipped with the optional power steering, power windows and air conditioning. In addition to the luxury options, the car also benefits from a full roll-cage, bucket seats and full harness belts. Also present are the original Aluminium bonnet and Magnesium wheels with new Bridgestone SO2 tyres. With just 72,000kms (44,000Miles) on the odometer, the car is said to be in excellent order. It has history and invoices dating back to the late 90's with £1000's spent including a full engine rebuild in 2004.
