Lot 142: Mazda RX7

Mazda were the only manufacturer to take up Rotary engine technology when NSU gave up the ghost after the commercial failure of the Ro80. Early Mazda's, like the little RX3, were soon seen in motor-sport and were very competitive, culminating in a win at the 24 Hour Le Mans in the mid eighties. It was however the RX7 of the late seventies that would take Rotary development into the 21st century. The RX7 remained in production for over 15 years. There were many changes over the years and Vic Elford took an RX7 racing with Turbo power as did TWR before they got involved with Rover and ultimately Jaguar. The wedge design gave way to more fluid, flowing lines in the nineties and power continued to grow, with the ultimate Twin Turbocharged,1308cc Rotary engine offering the same power as a throaty engine more than twice its size, with virtually nil vibration. Offered here is a late Series One of 1986 vintage, which has been in storage for 6 years before being recently recommissioned. Described as being in good condition throughout, the car is equipped with air conditioning, sunroof, electric windows, alloy road wheels and original tool kit.This is a Late Entry and will not appear in the printed catalogue.
