Lot 1406: Royal Enfield 225cc

Vintage MotorCycles, Cheffins (26th April 2008)

The original Royal Enfield marque can trace its origins back to 1898 in Redditch Worcestershire. Like many others they originally used proprietary engines before moving on to make their own power plants from 1925. Enfield went on to produce a variety of engine styles and configurations as well as enjoying considerable sporting success both on and off road. Eventually, like many other factories, they ceased production but due to their original subsidiary in India they now continue to exist with machines that in style mirror the past, but technically are very modern passing all the stringent tests applicable to today's vehicles. This example is believed to date from the early thirties being a 225cc side valve. The bike is mostly complete and the few missing parts should be obtainable with a view to a daytime MOT on this machine. There is no documentation and effort would need to be made through the owners club to accurately date and obtain certification for an age related number.
