Lot 36: Mercedes-Benz 280 SL
Classic & Historic Automobile, BCA (2nd October 2007)
Making its debut in late 1974, the second generation 280 SL may have had less power than the 350 and 450 SL versions but nevertheless offered the same level of refinement. Weighing some 99lbs less than the 350 SL meant that fuel economy was quite respectable, as was performance, with the acceleration from 0-60 being accomplished in 9.2 seconds, whilst maximum speed was an equally respectable 127mph. The 280 SL was available with a choice of manual or automatic transmission, though most purchasers chose the latter.Supplied new by Sunningdale Mercedes to a local doctor, this example dates from 1985 and is finished in Champagne Gold with beige interior trim. Reported as being in good mechanical order in all respects, it is said to have always been garaged. In the current ownership for the past twelve years, the vehicle is offered with comprehensive maintenance history showing the last service to have been carried out six months ago. The vehicle is also supplied with a V5 registration document and MOT certificate current until 15th March 2008.
